2007 PHEASANT STOCKING

For 2007, the Natural Resources Branch will be stocking 200 ring-necked pheasants

(100 males/100 females) on the West Point Military Reservation. The stockings will

occur on two days - 28 September and 5 October - with 100 birds being put out each

day. A map showing stocking release points will follow later this month.

While assistance is not required, people are welcome to come out either stocking day. The

release areas will be closed to hunting the day of the stockings. Please contact me by 24 Sep

if you will be coming out to help stock on either day. Stocking occurs between 1200 and 1530

hours.

ERRORS IN NY HUNTING REGULATION

GUIDE

When you buy your 2007-08 New York Hunting License, you will receive the regulation

guide summarizing hunting regulations in New York. Some errors in the guide were

not caught before it was sent to print. They are as follows:

The correct dates for the opening of deer season listed on the Sunrise/Sunset Chart on page 76 are as follows:

Northern Zone Opening Dates –

· Regular Season: October 20th;

· Archery Season: September 27th;

Southern Zone Opening Dates –

· Regular Season: November 17th;

· Archery Season: October 13th.

The correct information is listed on page 22, in the actual regulations for deer hunting. However,

on page 23, in the description of various tags and hunting dates for each, there are more errors in

the Northern Zone archery listing for either sex and antlerless tags. The correct dates should be

October 1 – 19. The correct dates for the Westchester County listing under antlerless and deer

management permits are October 13 – December 31.

WEST POINT ANGLER DIARY PROGRAM

In addition to reporting all fish that are kept, West Point anglers can also contribute

other important data that assists with the management of the fisheries found in West

Point's waters. This is accomplished through the Angler Diary Program. The attached

Word document describes what the program is and why it is important.

Only those West Point anglers that are serious in participating should sign up.

I have had many anglers in the past that signed up but never returned completed

diaries. Also, participating anglers need to follow the directions exactly for recording

the data in the diary. Otherwise, the information does me no good. All diaries submitted

will be returned to the participating anglers once the data has been entered.

Very important: I need willing participants that can fish at least

five days on any one West Point water and record the needed

info. The more waters you can fish at least five times, the better.

Call 938-3857 or e-mail me to sign up.
