Director of the Krause Initiative in Ethics and Leadership at The Citadel
   

LTC Jeffrey M. Weart is the first Director of the Krause Initiative in Ethics and Leadership at The Citadel.  The Krause Initiative was made possible by a very generous donation by Bill Krause (Citadel Class of 1963) and his wife Gay.  LTC Weart arrived at The Citadel on 1 September 2003.  The establishment of the Krause Initiative is a significant part of the Citadel’s strategic goals and clearly demonstrates a major commitment to the vision for the institution - Achieving excellence in the education of principled leaders

From the outset, LTC Weart has shaped his efforts in the Krause Initiative to build on The Citadel’s renowned history of educating and developing principled leaders through expanding and incorporating the various leadership and ethical development activities across the Citadel Experience.

LTC Weart was born on 16 September 1957 in Salem, Oregon to Doug and Joan Weart.  As a child of a career Air Force pilot, LTC Weart lived and was educated around the country.  He graduated from Selma High School in Selma, Alabama and entered the United States Military Academy Preparatory School in 1975.  The following year he gained an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1980 and was commissioned as an Armor officer.  In 1988 he was selected to attend The Eisenhower Fellowship in Leadership Development, graduating with a Master of Arts in Leadership Development from West Point in 1990. 

In 1998 LTC Weart was selected to return to West Point to serve as the Special Assistant to the Commandant for Systems and Planning.  He was responsible for the coordination and integration of the various leadership development, values instruction, and military training programs for the United States Corps of Cadets (USCC).  He was subsequently selected to serve as the Chief of Staff for USCC. 

LTC Weart’s education and knowledge in Leadership Development is complemented by his extensive and successful command and staff experience in Army tactical units and headquarters in the United States and abroad. 

LTC Weart retired from active duty on 31 Oct 2003 receiving the Legion of Merit for 24 years of dedicated service to the Army and the nation.

He is married to the former Carol Stukhart and they have two sons David, a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and Robert, a freshman at Clemson University.  They reside in Mt Pleasant, South Carolina.
