This page is intended to answer some of the questions delegates and their sponsors may have about NCEA.  If your specific question is not answered below, please do not hesitate to contact us using the link at the bottom of the page.

The Basics...

Security: Delegates will be required to pass through military police checkpoints.  A valid photo-ID must be carried at all times.

Clothing Attire: For civilian delegates, semi-formal and formal attire will be required.  Several functions during the conference will require a collared shirt and slacks, tie optional, for gentlemen and equivalent attire for ladies.  For the reception and banquet, formal attire (suit or coat and tie, black tie optional) for gentlemen and ladies is requested.  The working periods will be office casual dress.  Several social events for student delegates are planned, so delegates may wish to bring appropriate clothing for student-only events.  Please plan for cold weather!

Uniforms: For military delegates (active duty, ROTC, and all academies), please bring uniforms appropriate for dress standards described above.  Army and Air Force personnel should bring Class A, Class B, and dress mess/blues.  Marine personnel should bring Service A/B, and dress uniforms.  Navy personnel should bring their equivalent uniforms.

Weather: West Point weather is notoriously unforgiving in the late autumn/early winter period.  It is usually very windy and quite chilly.  At minimum, delegates should bring outerwear for walking around West Point during the conference period.

Packing: West Point encourages delegates to pack as lightly as possible; however, we understand that the requirement for clothing imposes certain difficulties.  Delegates will need to supply their own toiletries and personal towels.  Shower shoes are encouraged.  Irons are not necessary, as there is at least one iron in every cadet room.

FAQs from delegates...

Where will I stay?
Delegates will have the unique opportunity to be hosted in cadet rooms in one of the nine cadet barracks.  Cadet rooms are, in general, significantly larger than average college dorm rooms.  Each room has its own sink, with common bathroom facilities located in each hallway.  Showers are similar to those in athletic locker rooms.  Shower shoes are highly encouraged.

Will I be treated like a cadet?
As a delegate at NCEA, you will be treated as a guest of West Point.  We will do everything feasible to make your stay as pleasant as possible.  However, we ask that you follow those rules which are conducive to good order and respect for cadets and other delegates.  Cadets will be courteous and professional toward you at all times, and ask only the same in return.

Is it all work and no play? Fortunately, no.  The student delegates will have several chances to gather in a social atmosphere.  Those who are of legal age may consume alcohol upon presentation of the proper identification.

Are cadets brainwashed?
Believe it or not, this really is a common question.  USMA cadets, as well as the cadets from the other academies, are like students at any university.  While West Point focuses on producing leaders of the highest character for our nation's Army, cadets are not "brainwashed" or "robots."  As an institution of academic excellence, West Point encourages all manner of ideas and discussions among students, guests, and faculty alike.  You will likely find that cadets have very different opinions about the same subjects which concern students at traditional colleges and universities.
