The Long Gray Line. . .

Location: West Point is situated in New York's Hudson River Valley, approximately 55 miles north of New York City.

Population: The student body, known as the Corps of Cadets, numbers slightly more than 4,000. West Point is also home to several hundred officers, enlisted soldiers, and their families.

History: The United States Military Academy was founded at West Point in 1802, under the administration of Thomas Jefferson.  President Jefferson felt that a military academy was vital to the defense of the nation and the maintenance of a proper standing army.  Since that time, USMA graduates have fought in every war or conflict in American history since the War of 1812, and two graduates have held the office of President of the United States. The Long Gray Line, as the Corps is often called, continues to graduate men and women of superior character and ability, dedicated to serving the nation as leaders in the Army.
