Stan Brock, Army’s head football coach along with United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) head coach Bryan Cook and his coaching staff welcomed the newest Army football players into the Prep School program. The group of recently graduated high school seniors is one of the largest football classes to arrive at the Prep School in recent years.
The large group is strong in both depth and talent as West Point looks to build its foundation for the future. The positional breakdown is an evenly distributed with 13 linebackers making this the deepest position on the team. They are fronted by 11 defensive line recruits and a balance of other defensive talent. The offensive skill group consists of 15 players and is surrounded by a stout offensive line. Special teams will be the focus of the recruited kicker from Indiana.
A number of states are represented in this year’s recruiting class. Texas and Florida, longtime recruiting bastions for the Army program, lead the way with eleven and ten new Black Knights. Georgia, California, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina all have five recruits representing their states. Alabama, Arizona, and Maryland sent four Black Knights while Arkansas, New Jersey, and New York provided three. Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, Connecticut, and Kentucky are also represented.
The USMAPS program will provide a full 10 month developmental program during which time the cadet candidates will progress academically, militarily, and athletically. Their talents will be tested in a very challenging schedule against the top junior colleges and prep schools in the East. The first contest will be against Walter Reed at Fort Monmouth on Saturday August 23rd.
