Assignment Opportunities at West Point (scroll down to see all)
The United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA) is a tremendous place to serve and live. There are numerous assignments available at USMA, and most of them are listed below with links to their prospective faculty/staff/TAC pages. Many of these assignments include one to three years of fully-funded civilian graduate school prior to reporting to USMA. These assignments are indicated by a *.
Most Instructor and Tactical Officer/NCO assignments are competitive and made by the leader (Head/Director/CSM) of the department(s) the applicant is applying to join. These assignments typically include civilian graduate school. Most graduate school assignments are for KD captains. Most departments select their future officers in DEC/JAN of each year (and select officers who will start graduate school 1.5 years later). Most organizations occasionally conduct “direct-hires” if they have an exceptional applicant who already has a graduate degree in an applicable field.
Almost all officer applicants for Academic Instructor and Tactical Officer positions must apply through USMA’s W.E.S.T. online system: https://www.usma.edu/g1/SitePages/Strength%20Management.aspx . In the W.E.S.T. system, applicants are able to prioritize which department(s) they are most interested in. NCOs applying to be a Tactical NCOs do not use the W.E.S.T. system. The USMA Superintendent recently wrote a short article on the importance of bringing the best personnel to West Point to develop our next generation of leaders of character, while preparing the faculty and staff to return to the force as strategic leaders for the Army of the future.
