USMA Class of 2027 participate in Cadet Visitation Day on July 16, 2023, West Point, New York. New Cadets spent the afternoon with West Point families, faculty, and staff. It was a great day to learn about their hosts, relax and reconnect with family and friends, and it also signified the end of Cadet Basic Training 1.

Cadets explore Branch Week with 17 static displays representing 17 branches of the U.S. Army. Branch Week is designed to give the cadets a chance to learn more about their future careers in the Army, and it allows them to make a more informed decision when it's time to choose their branch. About the Department

The Department of Military Instruction's (DMI) mission is to build, educate, train, and inspire the U.S. Military Academy's Corps of Cadets in the essence of war-fighting and the Profession of Arms in order to develop future Army officers with the values, ethos, military skills, and leadership competencies necessary to lead America’s soldiers.

The purpose of the Military Program is to instill in cadets the foundational military competencies necessary to win in a complex world while inspiring them to professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the U.S. Army.

COL Mark D. Federovich

Department Director

COL Federovich is the director of the Department of Military Instruction. He is a native of Fort Rucker, AL, and commissioned in the Infantry through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at George Washington University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in international affairs. He also holds a master’s degree in social-organizational psychology from Columbia University.
