Systems Engineering Systems Engineering The West Point Department of Systems Engineering educates, develops, and inspires leaders of character who identify, formulate, and solve complex, engineering, and socio-technical problems for our Army and Nation. We use an interdisciplinary, integrative approach, that applies systems thinking, engineering design, data analysis, mathematical modeling, simulation, decision science, and project management. DSE offers three majors: systems engineering, engineering management and systems and decision sciences. In addition, DSE has a Core Engineering Sequence (CES) which provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about the art and science of decision-making. Through our courses, cadets develop an understanding of how to apply engineering concepts and principles to engineering related projects, management issues, and technology-laden organizations. Our programs offer a framework to develop executive-level skills at the undergraduate level. It focuses on defining customer needs and required functionalityearly in the development cycle, documenting requirements, then proceeding withdesign synthesis and system validation while considering the complete problem.”Engineering management is “the art and science of planning, organizing, allocatingresources, and directing and controlling activities which have a technologicalcomponent.”Want to learn more?Or, check us out on YouTube!Want to join our team? Operations Research CenterSince 1988 the Operations Research Center (ORCEN) has provided a dedicated analytical capability to solve complex problems for DoD organizations from the tactical to strategic level in the areas of operations research, decision support and analysis, modeling and simulation, and data analysis. By incorporating disciplinary innovation and emerging technologies from ongoing research into the classroom, the ORCEN enriches cadet education and faculty development in the Department of Systems Engineering.
