Colonel Fran Murphy, Ph.D., is an academy professor and the director of the Economics program within the Department of Social Sciences at the U.S. Military Academy. A 2002 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he also earned graduate degrees at Dartmouth (Tuck School of Business) and the University of Virginia. His research has published at the Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, and Journal of Human Capital.

COL Murphy previously served as a rotating faculty member (Economics) at West Point and with the First Infantry Division on multiple combat deployments to the Middle East. His most recent assignment was at the U.S. Air Force Academy as the Director of Research for the Office of Labor and Economic Analysis (OLEA), a nascent research agency providing rigorous manpower and policy analysis to the Department of the Air Force.
