CPT Michael Shares

CPT Mike Shares is an Instructor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the United States Military Academy (USMA). He joined USMA as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) Reservist in 2025.

CPT Shares graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. He later earned a J.D., magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School.

His first active-duty assignment included service with 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, where he served as an Assistant Battalion Operations Officer, Rifle Platoon Leader, and Battalion Mortars Platoon Leader. Following completion of the Signal Captains Career Course, he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 509th Strategic Signal Battalion, 2nd Theater Signal Brigade, in Vicenza, Italy, where he commanded soldiers supporting communications operations throughout Europe. During command, he led teams supporting U.S. operations across the European theater, including the Black Sea and Balkans regions.

After transitioning to the U.S. Army Reserve in 2023, CPT Shares served as Battalion Operations Officer for 3rd Battalion, 330th Infantry Regiment, 98th Training Division.

In his civilian career, CPT Shares is a litigation associate with Koley Jessen P.C., L.L.O., where he enjoys solving problems across a broad range of legal practice areas.
