Jennifer (Dunlavy) Hewit holds a Ph.D in Biomechanics/Strength and Conditioning from AUT University, Auckland, New Zealand where she was a scholarship recipient co-funded by Netball New Zealand and Sports Performance Institute New Zealand (SPRINZ). Her doctoral research was centered around developing a netball-specific agility assessment battery which targeted technical, physical and perceptual components of agility. Dr. Hewit arrived at West Point in 2014 where her primary duties include teaching Functional Anatomy, Biomechanics, Foundations of Personal Fitness as well as continuing her research in the field of biomechanics. Her current research interests involve developing assessments to identify asymmetries in order to adjust training protocols to minimize the risk of injury. Her previous research has focused on developing sport- and task-specific assessments of agility, speed, power and strength through a variety of sports including weight-lifting, netball, soccer and men’s gymnastics.
