|Peter and Sherry Cashman |
After their own successful careers training and running standardbred racing stables, and the birth of their son, Peter and Sherry Cashman came to West Point to manage the Academy’s stable in 1986. Soon after arriving at West Point, Peter and Sherry mostly handled the barn responsibilities. The Cadet Equestrian team held practice at the stables and after assisting the team for two years they took over as head coaches in 1988. Over the last 29 years they have built the program into a highly competitive unit. In 1998 Peter and Sherry introduced Western to the team, and have led the team to win all but three regional championships in the discipline. Under Peter and Sherry’s guidance the USMA team has sent seven American Quarterhorse Association riders to Nationals as well as individuals in Western and English. They have also had three riders at the Nationals in the Cacchione Cup. To Peter and Sherry, the team has become an extension of their own family of three children.
