About Our Department

G&EnE Mission
To enhance the intellectual, character, and military development of all cadets within the context of a core course in physical geography, a three course engineering sequence, five distinct majors, and a diverse offering of elective courses and to support the continued development of faculty and staff.
Welcome to the Department of Geography & Environmental Engineering at the United States Military Academy. In some respects our job is the same as every academic program at West Point --- to educate, train, and inspire cadets for a career in the Army and a lifetime of service to the Nation. We do this by providing a better understanding of the natural world, its people, and the interactions between the two. This process begins for all cadets in our physical geography course, normally taken during the second year at West Point. More details about this core course are just a few clicks away by navigating to the Geography Program linked below. Our department offers superior instruction in the fields of Geography, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and Geospatial Information Science. These disciplines are critical to the needs of our Army and to the continued security of the country. Our three programs offer four distinct majors that are designed to excite and inspire students. Additionally, we offer a three course environmental engineering sequence to more than 160 cadets each year. In all cases, we employ cutting edge technology in our classrooms and laboratories to enhance the cadet learning experience.
