USMA Native American Heritage Forum

 

This forum establishes a Native American environment where Native American cadets gain support in transitioning from a civilian to a cadet and from a cadet to an officer. We educate members of the Corps of Cadets about the history, heritage, and current affairs of Native Americans.  We provide members the opportunity to learn about Native American culture. We provide cadets the opportunity to attend Native American events outside the Academy such as powwows, conferences and educational forums.  Our objective is to increase cultural awareness, as well as provide outreach to other Native Americans to inspire their entrance into the Academy.  Cadets will have the opportunity to interact with Native American leaders from across the country.  Our forum is open to all cadets interested in Native American culture and heritage.

  • 14-16 April 2016 - AISES National Leadership Summit in Rochester, Minnesota
  • 1 May 2016 - Keeper of the Peace Native American Powwow at Gillis Field House
  • 17 September 2016 - Trip Section to the FDR Powwow (Yorktown Heights, NY)
  • 10-12 November 2016 - AISES National Conference - Minnepolis, MN
  • 16 November 2016 - Native American Heritage Month Luncheon - West Point Club
  • 21-23 March 2017 - USMA Diversity Leadership Conference - West Point, NY
  • 21-23 April 2017 - Trip Section to the Naval Academy - Visit the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. with USNA's Native American Club
  •  7 May 2017- Keeper of the Peace Native American Powwow, West Point, NY
  • August 2017 - Annual A-DAY Diversity Cookout - Eisenhower Hall, West Point
  • 21-23 September 2017 - AISES National Conference - Denver, Colorado
  • 15 November 2017 - Native American Heritage Observance Luncheon
  • 24 February 2018 - Trip Section to the National Museum of the American Indian
