WEST POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2013) — With just three weeks until the Army-Navy game, the Corps of Cadets launched a pre-emptive strike on the midshipmen Nov. 23 at the 4th Army-Navy Brigade Championships.

The U.S. Military Academy hosted four teams from the U.S. Naval Academy and cadets swept the midshipmen in basketball, ultimate frisbee, flag football and soccer to claim the championship trophy for the first time since the games began in 2010.

The Company F-2 team earned a win over Navy in ultimate frisbee, 20-1. Class of 2014 Cadet Michael Richardson said the team played flawlessly for the easy win over Navy. Their success had much to do with a tough slate of playoff games at the end of the season.

"Though the Navy team was without a doubt very athletic, our team faced much tougher competition from within the Corps of Cadets and even within Second Regiment," Richardson said.

Richardson said this was the third year the company has participated in the series and Co. F-2 was glad to contribute to the overall win.

"I’m glad to see the trophy back at West Point for the first time, and our team is proud to be a part of its legacy," Richardson said. "I think each of the four teams cherished the opportunity to represent the academy, and it showed on the scoreboards at the end of the day."

In soccer, Co. G-1 defeated the midshipmen, 2-1, and C-1 bested Navy, 32-12, in flag football. Co. E-1 recovered from a weak first half to win, 49-45, in basketball.

“It was a really hard-fought game,” Class of 2014 Cadet Teminiro E-nunu said about the comeback win for Co. E-1.

Col. Gregory Daniels, head of the Department of Physical Education, presented the trophy to the cadets at the end of the soccer game on Daly Field and thanked the midshipmen for continuing this tradition between the academies.

“At the end of the day we’re all on the same team … and it really was an honor and a privilege to watch you all compete today,” Daniels said.
