Major Ryan D. Swisher graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and commissioned as an infantry officer. He served as a dismounted reconnaissance Platoon Leader, a Scout Platoon Leader, and an assistant operations officer in the 1st Squadron 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade 25th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He deployed as a Platoon Leader to Paktya Province Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom where he conducted counter insurgency operations. He was then assigned to the 3d Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas where he served as a Stryker Infantry Company Commander and he deployed to Afghanistan again as a Headquarters Company Commander. Major Swisher earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and is currently an instructor of economics at the United States Military Academy.
Major Swisher’s military education includes Air Assault School, the Basic Officer Leaders Course, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, the Joint Firepower Course, Jumpmaster School, Combatives Level 2, Maneuver Captains’ Career Course, the Mission Command Digital Master Gunner Course, and the Pathfinder School.
